SDM Polytechnic, Ujire, warmly welcomed its new batch of students with a vibrant Student Induction and Orientation Programme (Prarambhotsava) held at the college auditorium (workshop Hall) on 29th June 2026. The event witnessed the enthusiastic participation of newly admitted students and their parents, marking the beginning of an exciting academic journey.
Inaugurating the programme, Mrs. Sonia Yashovarma, Ujire, encouraged students to focus not only on academic excellence but also on building strong character and values.
“Students with high marks are many, but those with integrity, discipline, confidence, and compassion earn lasting respect in society. Education should prepare you not just for a career but for life,” she said.
Drawing inspiration from nature, she compared students to an eagle that rises higher by using strong winds to its advantage, while other birds seek shelter.
“Challenges are inevitable, but those who transform them into opportunities achieve greater heights. Never hesitate to embrace new opportunities.”
She reminded students that college life is much more than classrooms and examinations. It is a time to build friendships, discover one’s strengths, develop leadership qualities, and convert dreams into meaningful goals. She urged students to learn for life rather than merely studying for examinations and to strive to become responsible citizens who contribute positively to society.
Developing Multi-Skilled Professionals
Addressing the gathering as Chief Guest, Mr. Puran Varma, Chief Executive Officer, IT and Hostel Administration, SDM Educational Institutions, highlighted the importance of becoming a multi-skilled professional in today’s competitive world.
He emphasized that technical knowledge alone is not sufficient. Students must also develop practical skills, creative thinking, communication abilities, teamwork, and a positive attitude. He encouraged them to make productive use of the internet and social media as learning tools, cultivate curiosity, and continue learning every day.
Mr. Varma also spoke about the rich legacy of Shri Kshetra Dharmasthala in serving society through various social welfare initiatives, welcoming the freshers into the ever-growing SDM family.
Focus on Holistic Student Development
Presiding over the function, Principal Mr. Santhosh introduced the institution’s vision and highlighted the academic, co-curricular, and extracurricular opportunities available during the current academic year. He briefed students about educational tours, cultural activities, campus placements, and various initiatives designed to ensure their overall development.

The programme was attended by Mr. Chandranath Jain, Manager of SDM Polytechnic, along with department heads, faculty members, staff, students, and parents.
The faculty choir rendered the invocation. Lecturer Shivaprasad welcomed the gathering, Lecturer Shankar Bhat proposed the vote of thanks, and Lecturer Sampath Kumar compered the programme.
