As part of the Student Induction Programme 2026, the third day’s programme featured “Cyber Shield – Student Awareness Programme” at the Workshop Seminar Hall of SDM Polytechnic, Ujire. The awareness session aimed to educate newly admitted students on safe and responsible use of digital technologies.
The programme commenced with a warm welcome by Mrs. Prathvi. Mr. Santhosh, Principal, SDM Polytechnic, addressed the gathering and emphasized the importance of cyber awareness, responsible digital behaviour, and ethical use of technology in students’ academic and personal lives. The programme was efficiently compered by Mr. Sampath Kumar, Lecturer, Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering.
The resource person, Mr. Udaya Ravi, Police Sub-Inspector, Cyber Crime Department, Mangalore Division, delivered an insightful and interactive session on cyber security and digital safety. He explained various cyber threats faced by students, including phishing scams, online fraud, identity theft, cyberbullying, social media misuse, fake job offers, digital payment frauds, and privacy breaches. He also guided students on creating strong passwords, protecting personal information, recognizing suspicious online activities, and reporting cybercrimes through the appropriate authorities.
The session witnessed enthusiastic participation from the students, who actively interacted with the resource person by raising questions and discussing real-life cybercrime incidents. The programme successfully created awareness about the growing importance of cyber security and encouraged students to become responsible, alert, and ethical digital citizens.
